News 2009November 2009Although Christmas nearly upon us, we have been still very busy. We recently attended Operation PEDLAR (Police Engagement Day with emphasis on Liasion
Action and Reaction), an event by Devon & Cornwall Police. For more information about operation PEDLAR select PEDLAR link or visit http://neighbourhoodpolicing.devon-cornwall.police.uk/BCU-1632/Sector-1653/NB-1656/Pages/PEDLAR.aspx We also had a good turn out at our last Network meeting of the year in Stroud, where yet we had another mix of good of idea’s and lots of sharing of information amongst the Warden Network. We have also started working on Swindon Borough Council’s ‘Migration Project ’.
This has initially been set up to be run in Swindon. This along with our Working with Communities, Neighbourhoods and Localities project is very much keeping us all very busy. For more information about this please see Latest Projects October 2009Yet another busy month at the resource centre as we have been commissioned by South West Councils to deliver an exciting new project, Working with Communities, Neighbourhoods and Localities.As part of this project we will be looking for 5 case studies from across the South West showing good practice where communities and service providers have worked in partnership to have a positive impact on the neighbourhood and on quality of life for its residents. For more information about this please see Latest Projects We have delivered another NCFE Accredited Level 2 Restorative Approaches training programme,this time too a group of 11 fire personnel from the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. The delegates all successfully completed the cause and have received their certificaties in Restorative Approaches. Once again the cause was received well and had good overall feedback. Please see Newsletter to see the latest and archive copies September 2009This month we have been very busy. We are happy to report that another nine Wardens from the South West have successfully passed their NCFE Community Core Warden training. The wardens were across the South West, Donna Miline, Eshan Rastayhsi and Trevor Cross from Plymouth, Debbie Miles, Phil Drew and Tracey Young from Stroud Cherif Benkanoun Transform North Devon and Lyndsey Gatley and Jamie Fortune from Torbay. Please see Training Services for further information. As well as holding our Autumn network meeting in Torquay we also held our ‘Neighbourhoods Now’ conference there too. This was massive success and was fully booked. This focused on showcasing good practice from our warden schemes. Our speakers demonstrated how they deliver exceptional services to our communities as well as how they have adapted and diversified to improve their services and provide value for money. Please see Events and Conferences for more information. August 2009The Resource Centre ran a ‘Supporting People Service User’ training session. Training for Swindon Borough Council Supporting People team, was first developed to help get a clearer picture of whether Swindon Borough Council was providing the right level of service for its users. This course helps develop interviewing techniques as well as building confidence for it’s service users to interview other service users to obtain a clearer idea of whether the current conditions meets their needs. Please See Training Services for Further information. July 2009The Resource Centre has held its first NCFE Accredited Level 2 Restorative Approaches training programme. This was well attended with a host of representatives from Wardens, Fire, Police and local authority partners. The programme was well received and good feedback came from all involved.For more information on this qualification, please see Training Services The Summer Network meeting was held at Weston-super-Mare on June 2009Stroud wardens Peter Gleed and Simon Moulding and Swindon wardens Trevor Cole and Rob Stygall have now completed all the units needed needed to gain their City and Guilds Level 2 NVQ Community Warden qualifications. For more information on this qualification, please see Training Services May 2009The South West Resource Centre has run a City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Community Safety for Accredited Persons, and eight Teignbrige environmental wardens have passed the award. These are Andrew Wilson, Colin Guswell, Derek Stratton, Kevin Arnold, Michael Wolfendale, Peter Howell, Sidney Rollinson and Stephen Finch. Please See Training Services for Further information. April 2009Swindon Lead Warden, Nick Brock has now completed his NVQ Assessor (A1) award. He is assessing members of his staff for the Level 2 Community Wardens NVQ The Resource Centre worked in partnership with the SW RIEP to co-host the launch of the Stronger Communities Agenda. This event proved very popular and a wide verity of guests attended from all sectors. For further information about this event please see Events and Conferences. March 2009We are happy to report that another six Wardens from the South West have successfully passed their NCFE Community Core Warden training.
