We are carrying out research across the South West region about neighbourhood warden schemes on behalf of S W Councils.

(1) reviewing the attributes of warden schemes, along with best practice, and

(2) identifying improvement areas and development needs

It may be useful to explain what we mean by neighbourhood warden schemes.  We are interested in semi-official neighbourhood initiatives established for one of more of the following:

  • support for the management of housing estates
  • monitor and improve the state of the local environment
  • monitor and help to curb anti-social behaviour and low level crime.

The questionnaire refers to ‘Warden Schemes’. However, we would like to include all organisations that are community-based neighbourhood initiatives, such as:

  • Housing Caretakers/WardensHousing
  • Patrollers
  • Pastors
  • Beech Patrollers
  • Parks Attendants
  • Neighbourhood Caretakers
  • National Park Wardens

The purpose of this research is to build a picture of activities throughout the region, how activities are helping to meet local priorities set against Local Area Agreement improvements. We will also be looking at future support required to enable you to further develop skills in meeting the challenges of working in a community environment and meeting targeted needs.

Evidence will be circulated nationally to promote good working practices and we would welcome the opportunity to contact you for further information regarding specific good practice examples you put forward in this questionnaire.
