Neighbourhoods Now

"Making a difference in your community”
Conference
30 September 2009

“The room was buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm”
quote from Bryony Houlden, Chief Executive – South West Councils“

The South West Neighbourhood Resource Centre has, yet again, delivered an extremely successful regional conference. This event, which was held in Torquay, focused on showcasing good practice from our warden schemes. Our speakers demonstrated how they deliver exceptional services to our communities as well as how they have adapted and diversified to improve their services and provide value for money.

We were welcomed to Torquay by the Mayor, Nick Bye, who spoke passionately and proudly of the achievements of the wardens working in deprived areas of the bay. A special mention was made of the work done alongside the Shekinah Mission, supporting homeless people in Torquay.

We would like to thank residents and staff from the Shekinah Mission who took the time to welcome workshop delegates to their new hostel. Residents explained to the visitors the reasons the Mission is so important to them and how the help they have had has restored their confidence enough to once again live as part of the community.

We would like to thank all our speakers and workshop facilitators and everyone who helped us make this event such a success.

A special thank you to the Torbay Street Wardens who provided an exceptional welcoming service throughout the day.
