South West Neighbourhood Resource CentreThe South West Neighbourhood Resource Centre is an established training and supported hub, with its roots embedded in neighbourhoods working. Funded by South West Councils and Communities and Local Government (CLG) since 2004, our aim is to provide real opportunities for those that live, work and manage in communities that will enhance their liveability and enable goverment targets to be achieved. Threaded thoughout services the South West Neighbourhood Resource Centre provides the promotion of community empowerment, equality and tackling of exclusion. Our training programmes are designed to help support current and emerging national, regional and local Government agendas around Local Area Agreements. We offer training, accreditation, NVQ qualifications, and advice and guidance to both new and established warden schemes as well as community organisations seeking to meet the needs of residents in their neighbourhood. The centre is equipped with materials and staff who are trained to provide a range of training and development activities as well as professional advice and support to practitioners who working, managing and living in neighbourhoods. The Resource Centre aims to provide quality training at consistently high standards, developing new packages and specialist courses to suit the evolving trends in the community. We act as a hub of information providing support and advice to new and existing community organisations in the region.
The photograph (above) shows wardens from Torbay, Weston super Mare, Plymouth, Stroud, Sovereign Housing (Berkshire) Helston, Portshead, Cheltenham and Swindon on a recent study visit to 'The Bournville Chocolate Garden', Weston super Mare. Also in the photo are Ann Riney, chair of the Bournville residents associations, and Lynn Jarvie, Resource Centre, Training Officer. The Resource Centre has been working with the wardens on the Bournville estate since the scheme was set up in December 2007 and we have seen the incredible difference they have made.
